“(I’m) about to,” he said briefly with a smile when a foreign wire agency journalist asked him whether he had the inspiration to call for the 12th general election.

Earlier, he opened the Pavilion shopping complex.

Political analysts had predicted that the general election would be called immediately after the Chinese New Year as early as Feb 13 based on the fact that the number 13 is the favourite number of the prime minister due to the fact that his car registration number is 13.

Apart from that, Abdullah is scheduled to attend the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC) meeting in Senegal from March 8 to 14, thus prompting party insiders to believe that the election is imminent.

The last general election in 2004 was announced on March 3 and parliament was dissolved a day later on March 4.
