United Nations : The Non-Aligned Movement expressed regret Friday at the incompetence of the Security Council to face the current crisis in the Palestinian territory of Gaza and its silence on the terrible humanitarian conditions there.
A NAM Coordination Bureau declaration noted with regret that once again the highest UN entity has been incapable of pronouncing on the situation in the Palestinian territories occupied by Israel.
The document points out that this recent failure will neither improve what happens there nor help to boost peace process.
Neither will it promote confidence in the credibility of the Security Council and its ability to effectively deal with serious subjects, the document continued.
NAM reiterates its deep concern over the critical humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip and the continued illegal Israeli practices in the rest of the occupied Palestinian territory, the text reads.
Once again, NAM urged Israel to fulfill his obligations under international law and immediately stop its collective punishment of the Palestinian people, as well as other illegal actions in those territories, including East Jerusalem.
The 118-membership organization also requested Tel Aviv to open the Gaza borders to allow circulation of people and merchandise, including humanitarian provisions like food, medicines and fuel to alleviate the suffering of those people.
Two days ago the Security Council announced it resigned its attempt to adopt a declaration on the critical situation in Gaza, after five days of intense negotiations that were always rejected by the United States.
