Dhaka : An anonymous philanthropist donated 130 million U.S. dollars for Bangladeshi cyclone-affected people through Islamic Development Bank (IDB).
Local newspaper The Independent reported Monday the mysterious donor wanted to use the funds through the IDB.
Bangladeshi caretaker government Chief Adviser Fakhruddin Ahmed, while meeting with the visiting IDB mission Sunday, thanked the IDB for taking the responsibility of managing the funds, and also wanted IDB to extend his thanks to the unnamed philanthropist.
According to the desire of the philanthropist, the donor wants to spend 110 million dollars for constructing school-cum-cyclone shelters while the rest 20 million for livelihood rehabilitation of the cyclone-affected people.
The cyclone Sidr, one of the fiercest cyclones hit Bangladesh in the last 131 years, slammed the country’s southern and southwestern areas on Nov. 15, affecting 30 out of total 64 districts and leaving thousand people dead and millions homeless.
