About 200 Britons killed in terror incidents abroad in past decade

London : Nearly as many Britons have been killed in terror incidents in Iraq as those who died in the 9/11 attacks in the US in 2001, according to UK government figures.

In a written parliamentary reply published Tuesday, Foreign Office Minister Kim Howells listed a total of 194 British citizens as being killed and 156 others injured as the consequence of terrorist activity abroad in the past 10 years.

The list included 64 Briton who have so far died in Iraq, only three less than the number killed in the 2001 attack on New York’s World Trade Center. A further 81 have also been injured in Iraq.

The next highest has been 29 killed in Indonesia along with 33 injured, Eleven have died in incidents in Egypt, six in Saudi Arabia and four each in Turkey and Russia.

There have also been singly British deaths as a consequence of terror activity in Afghanistan, Greece, Qatar, Jordan and the occupied territories, listed as Israel.
