Kabul : The UN Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) demanded a halt to armed attacks against aid convoys and food directed to poor inhabitants, specially those affected by a cold spell in the country.
UNAMA’s chief in Herat province Hassan Elhag declared the media that those attacks hinder food supply to Afghan families threatened by heavy snowfall in the last few weeks.
He warned that those dozens of people are threatened by price increases of basic food products.
Elhag affirmed that the efforts of those different UN specialize agencies are being hindered by attacks against aid convoys preventing the poor families from receiving that support.
The official demanded US forces, NATO and Afghan resistance to recognize the Afghan humanitarian needs over armed struggle and politics.
Over 500 people died and dozens of thousands have been wounded since the arrival of winter in this Central Asian Islamic nation.
Another 37 people died, most of them children, because of the intense cold in Ghazni central province, informed governor Faizullah Faisan.
The government official asked for urgent help for inhabitants from the rural areas at risk due to the low temperatures.
