In a press conference held in Nablus, which Blair was visiting for the first time, the former British premier said he clearly understood the tragedy that the Palestinians lived in in this city, brought about by occupation and checkpoints.

He said more effort was needed to obliterate Israeli claims and end the occupation of the city, which he said was an economic and commercial capital before deteriorating in this way.

Blair noted that he was not able to visit Nablus in the past for security reasons, adding that he would be meeting with businessmen over projects that needed to be carried out in the city.
