Chad Announces Curfew

Nairobi : The Chadian government announced Thursday it will impose a curfew in the capital and six central and eastern provinces, as a security measure to help keep the fragile calm in the country.

The curfew will take effect at 18:30 local time Thursday and be lifted at 06:00 Friday, Prime Minister Nouradine Delwa Kassire Coumakoye explained in press conference.

Meanwhile, President Idriss Deby asked the European Union Force (EUFOR) to deploy troops in his country soon, ó to help alleviate the situation, ó according to press sources.

Chad is living a fragile calm alter rebel forces trying to overthrow the president on the weekend took the capital, and got close to the presidential palace.

After being repelled by governmental forces, the insurgents accepted a truce, and remain in the outskirts of the metropolis, waiting to see their first demand met: Deby’s dismissal.
