Bhopal : The Madhya Pradesh government has ordered an inquiry after nine people lost their eyesight after surgeries were carried at an eye camp in Seoni district last week, official sources said Thursday.
A total of 35 patients were operated upon at a special eye camp Jan 28 organised by the Mission Hospital at Lakhnadon town in the district.
Nine of the patients complained of blurred vision initially and later were unable to see anything.
They were shifted to a private hospital at Nagpur where they are undergoing treatment.
“The operations were conducted at the eye camp organised by the Lakhnadon Mission Hospital. The health department was, however, not intimated about the camp,” District Chief Medical Officer J.P. Verma told IANS by phone.
“The state government has taken a serious note of the incident and a high-level team constituted by public health commissioner is looking into the whole episode,” District Collector P. Narahari said.
