New Delhi : President Pratibha Patil and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Saturday condoled the death of eminent social worker Baba Amte, saying the Padma Shri awardee will remain a guiding beacon for all those working for the common good of society.
Manmohan Singh said: “Baba Amte’s life long struggle to unite people across the length and breadth of the country on national and Gandhian lines and to eliminate all forms of discrimination and bias truly make him a saint of our times.
“The footprints of Baba Amte will be permanently embedded in the sands of time and will be a guiding beacon for all those working for the common good.”
In a statement issued from Jalgaon in Maharashtra where she is on a tour, the president said: “Baba Amte was an unique example of a person who committed his life to the welfare of destitute.”
