Five killed in Los Angles

Los Angeles : Five people have been killed in a standoff between the police and a gunman in Los Angeles, the police said.

The standoff began overnight Thursday in a house in the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles. A man barricaded himself in a house and opened fire at a police team.

The man had killed three of his relatives before the police arrived.

In the standoff, a policeman and the gunman were killed while two police officers suffered minor injuries, Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) Chief William Bratton said.

The police fired tear gas into the residence to force the gunman to surrender but to no avail.
