Fresh spell of snow in Himachal Pradesh, five killed

Shimla : Snowfall continued unabated in Himachal Pradesh as the state was covered in sheet of white for the third consecutive day Friday. The bitter cold condition killed five across the state.

Two children were killed in an avalanche in the Lahaul Valley, while two others died in the Chamba Valley. One person died in Dodra Kwar in Shimla district, officials said here.

Shimla wore a white mantle for the third consecutive day with snow throwing life completely out of gear. Traffic came to a complete standstill as a fresh spell of snow lashed the state capital.

The minimum temperature recorded in the city was -1 degree Celsius on a cold gloomy day when most residents stayed indoors.

An avalanche in the tribal district of Kinnaur killed 17 yaks.

The Hindustan-Tibet highway passing through the ski resorts of Kufri and Narkanda remained suspended for the traffic. Both these places have received heavy snowfall.

The Chamba Valley continues to remain cut of from the rest of the country due to inclement weather.
