London : Pakistan High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Dr.Maleeha Lodhi has urged the UK-based Pakistani journalists to promote and project their country in a healthy way and negate the wrong propaganda of the international media.
The High Commissioner was speaking on Thursday evening at a function arranged by the organising committee of Pakistan Journalists Association UK.
She complimented the organisers for reviving the long dormant body and said its re-birth will help the media to play its due role in the British-Pakistan community and in fostering better relations with its British counterparts.
Dr.Lodhi acknowledged media’s right to information and extended High Commission’s full support and facilitation to PJA in discharging its responsibility.
She said the objective of both the High Commission and the Pakistani media was the same which was to advance the cause and interests of the country in a positive manner.
The High Commissioner noted similarity of responsibility between the media and the diplomats and said each require three skills to be successful in their respective domain.
Dr.Lodhi counted these as ability to report accurately without exaggeration, keen sense of analysis and the skill to communicate easily. As a former journalist, she said, these characteristics have stood her in a good stead as a diplomat.
Journalists Iftikhar Qaisar and Asif Jeelani explained the aims behind the revival of the body and said it would pursue purely journalistic objectives and remain apolitical.
They said renewal of the journalist association had become imperative in view of the growth of Pakistani media in the British capital.
