Merkel, Erdogan soothe Turkish, German victims of fire

Berlin : German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan met here on Friday with a group of German and Turkish students discussing with them the fire to a building which was home to Turkish citizens in the city of Ludwigshafen last Sunday.

At the beginning of the meeting, German, Turkish officials and that students remained silent for a minute to mourn victims of this fire, causes of which are not known yet.

Merkel described the fire as “the most tragic event for all in Germany.” For his part, Erdogan hailed Turkish-German relations, thanking the German government for dealing with the incident with wisdom and care.
