The first accident occurred in the central La Pampa province where eight people were killed.

The deputy chief of the local police, Juan Domingo Perez, said the accident took place when two cars collided head-on, around 30 km from the General Pico city.

The second incident took place on a highway in the northeastern Entre Rios province, when a van and an ambulance rammed into each other. Two people were killed and two seriously injured in the incident.

According to a study by the Center for Experimentation and Highway Safety, 114 people were killed and 206 injured in 52 vehicular accidents in January in different parts of the country.

The Argentine government has launched a plan Wednesday to reduce the number of deaths in vehicular accidents, which aims to bring in stringent penalties for erring drivers besides others.
