Gaza : Nimer Hammad, advisor to the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, on Saturday accused Hamas, which controls the Gaza Strip, of foiling Abbas’ initiative aimed at reopening the Rafah border crossing with Egypt.
Hammad said in statements carried by the Palestinian radio that Abbas made a proposal that the Presidential Guard, which used to run the Rafah crossing, be in charge of re-operating it within the framework of the the previous agreement signed with Israel in 2005.
Hammad said he was surprised at the reaction of Hamas by rejecting this proposal, as well as its criticisms against the Palestinian Authority and President Abbas on one hand and the non-polite talk and escalations against our brothers in Egypt and the Egyptian officials on the other.
