Gaza City : Israeli warplanes carried out a series of air strikes on targets in the Gaza Strip, killing one Hamas militant and wounding around 10 people, witnesses and medics said.
The Israeli strikes came after militant groups continued launching homemade rockets Saturday from Gaza toward communities in southern Israel.
Israeli Radio reported that a Palestinian rocket fired from Gaza hit a house in the town of Sderot in southern Israel, wounding two Israelis including one child.
Palestinian witnesses said that an F16 warplane fired one missile at a blacksmith store in southern Gaza City, adding that a huge explosion was heard, where rescue teams and fire fighters were called to the scene.
Mo’aweya Hassanein, chief of emergency and ambulance services, said by telephone that eight civilians were injured in the air strike. Witnesses said the building was badly damaged.
Earlier Saturday night, an Islamic Hamas militant was killed when an Israeli aircraft fired one missile at a group of militants in the southern Gaza town of Rafah.
Medics said that Mohamed Imteir, a militant leader in the Hamas movement’s armed wing, was killed and two other Hamas militants were wounded.
