Damascus : Syrian Ministry of Tourism and the Iranian Cultural Heritage and Tourism Organization signed on Saturday an executive program for Syrian-Iranian joint tourist cooperation, concluding the meetings of the Syrian-Iranian Joint Tourist Committee.
The two sides agreed to produce short promotional films to be broadcast via official media sources in both countries, in addition to providing necessary facilitations for organizing expos and promotional meetings.
The program stressed the need to promote Syria and Iran as a joint tourist attraction in distant countries like Japan and India, and to prepare studies for targeted markets and promote tourist locations.
Both sides agreed to provide tourist services that meet international standards, hold training courses, and encourage Syrian and Iranian Airlines to coordinate flights between the two counties.
The program was signed by Assistant Minister of Tourism Mohannad Kalash and Assistant Chairman of the Cultural Heritage and Tourism Organization Mohammad Sharif Malek Zada.
Upon launching “Damascus, Arab Capital of Culture 2008” last month, Director-General of United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization UNESCO Koichiro Matsuura affirmed that the purpose of the Arab Capital of Culture events was to enrich knowledge of Arab culture, and also to enrich dialogue between Eastern and Western cultures.
