Punjab offers security for Sikh celebrations at Nanded

Chandigarh : The Punjab government Sunday offered all security arrangements the celebrations of the 300th Guru-ta-Gaddi Diwas (installation ceremony) of the Sikh holy book, Granth Sahib, at Hazoor Sahib gurudwara in Nanded town, Maharashtra.

Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal made the offer to provide all security personnel, vehicles and other resources at a meeting Sunday of the tercentenary celebrations national committee, headed by union Home Minister Shivraj Patil, at Nanded.

Over 1.2 million Sikh devotees are expected to participate in the tercentenary celebrations to be held at Nanded Oct 28-Nov 4.

The Nanded gurudwara has historical significance for the Sikhs.

The national committee has already approved the route of the 2,480-km-long Guru Gobind Singh Marg from the Sikh holy city of Anandpur Sahib to Nanded. The highway will pass through Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra.

Patil said the central government along with Punjab and Maharashtra would spend Rs.14.20 billion ($359 million) for the tercentenary event.
