Sampla (Haryana) : The United National Progressive Alliance (UNPA) Sunday announced plans for a protest rally in New Delhi Feb 26 to highlight the plight of the farmers of the country. The UNPA has sent an invitation to the Left parties to join the protest rally.
The rally would demand the government waive off all farmer loans and ensure remunerative prices for their produce, UNPA leader and former Haryana Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala announced at a rally here Sunday. Several top UNPA leaders were also present.
Interestingly, the UNPA has extended an invite to the Left parties for the Delhi rally. Chautala confirmed that the invitation has been sent to the Left parties.
UNPA leaders such as former chief ministers Mulayam Singh Yadav (Uttar Pradesh), Chandra Babu Naidu (Andhra Pradesh), Farookh Abdullah (Jammu and Kashmir), Babu Lal Marandi (Jharkhand) and Samajwadi Party general secretary Amar Singh launched scathing attack on the Congress-led central government and its “anti-farmer” policies.
The UNPA leaders particularly targeted the government’s special economic zone (SEZ) policy, accusing it of keeping the interests of big business houses like Reliance and grabbing the fertile land of farmers.
They said even six decades after the independence of the country, the farmers had to fight for basic things like minimum support price for their produce.
