Melbourne : Former Australian pacer Damien Fleming feels India’s latest find, Ishant Sharma, will play a major role in his country’s success in the years to come.
Young Ishant Sunday created ripples after he single-handedly ripped through Australia’s top order and finished the match with an impressive figure of 4-38. His match-winning performance also restricted the world champions to mere 159 runs in 44 overs.
Fleming, who holds a hat trick in Test cricket, was all praise for the 19-year-old Delhi lad, saying he has the capability to overtake Brett Lee and South African Dale Steyn to the world no.1 spot.
“He’s (Ishant) going to be a big factor for India’s bowling stocks for years to come,” Fleming was quoted by the Herald Sun as saying.
Apart from the wickets, the impressive feature of Ishant’s bowling against Australia was his recovery from Mathew Hayden’s early onslaught.
In the second over, Hayden smashed Ishant for 18 runs, which included two no balls. However, he picked up the wicket of the burly opener in his very next over.
Ishant also added the wickets of Australian skipper Ricky Ponting, Andrew Symonds and Stuart Clark under his belt.
