New Delhi: The 3-day seminar on the life and works of the revolutionary poet Makhdoom Mohiuddin concluded on 10th February at India Islamic Cultural Centre in New Delhi. Several prominent litterateurs from across the country attended the seminar.
Prof. Ali Ahmad Fatimi elaborated on distinctions of Makhdoom’s protest and revolutionary poetry. Prof. Qamar Rais highlighted the features of Makhdoom’s poetry particularly the free verse form. Referring to Zuber Rizvi’s paper presented here, Prof. Anees Ashfaq elaborated on factors that made Makhdoom distinct. He said Makhdoom explored his literary standards constantly that forms a good example for all of us who serve the literature and tells that every pioneer poet keeps thinking about his creative attitudes and changes himself accordingly.
In his presidential address, Prof. Shamsur Rahman Farooqui narrated several of his meetings with Makhdoom and told that the poet never allowed ideological differences to overshadow personal relations. This was a bright aspect of his personality, he said. Politics and poetry are found together in his works, as they are found in Nazim Hikmat, Pablo Neruda and Allama Iqbal’s, the professor said. The program was organized under the auspices of the National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language.
