Srinagar : There was no let up in the cold wave conditions sweeping the Kashmir Valley Tuesday with minimum temperature further dipping in many areas.
Pahalgam in South Kashmir continued to be the coldest place in the state with minimum temperature dipping to minus 14.4 degrees Celsius, the Met office said.
Qazigund on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway shivered at a low of -11.6 degrees Celsius followed by Kokernag at -8.4 degrees Celsius.
Frontier district of Kupwara witnessed the coldest night of this month as the minimum temperature dipped to -8.4 degrees Celsius, while Srinagar recorded a low of – 5 degrees Celsius.
In Jammu region, Bhaderwah and Banihal witnessed the coldest night with minimum temperatures of -7.0 and – 6.1 degrees Celsius respectively.
However, Jammu recorded the low temperature of 3.7 C and Katra settled at 4.3 Celsius.
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Social Welfare Minister Abdul Gani Vakil Tuesday directed the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Mehboob Iqbal to initiate measures to evacuate inhabitants of Nail village in Bandipora district after an avalanche alert was sounded there.
The minister has asked for arranging helicopter service and sought assistance of army to ensure safety of locals in the snowbound village, officials said.
