Chandigarh : The Haryana health department Tuesday refuted reports that an infant died in Fatehabad district due to polio vaccine.
A health department spokesman said the death of the eight-month-old infant after the administration of polio drops during a nationwide campaign Sunday was just a coincidence.
He said the infant was a premature baby and had been suffering from severe pneumonia for the last two weeks and was under treatment of a private practitioner. He said the polio drops were absolutely safe and did not have any side-effect.
He added that no misconception should be formed about the safety of the polio drops because of this incident.
