Moscow – (IINA) February 12 – More than 26,000 Muslims from Russia performed the annual pilgrimage of Haj last year. This figure is the highest number of pilgrims performing Haj in the history of Russian Federation, according to a statement carried by the Russian official news agency Itar Tass.
Zamer Izatolin, deputy president of the Religious Department for Muslims in the European Part of Russia, said that as many as 26,253 pilgrims performed Haj in December, 2007. Addressing a meeting of the Russian Haj Council, he said that seven pilgrims died during Haj, of these five deaths were natural ones. Six travel and tourism companies had been tasked with transportation of pilgrims, he added.
