“Considering all these dangerous situations in Gaza, I demand a comprehensive, mutual and coincident calmness to take place immediately,” Erekat told Voice of Palestine radio.

Israel launches daily attacks in the Gaza Strip where Islamic Hamas movement rules. The offensive coincides with more than seven months of unprecedented Israeli blockade on the coastal strip.

“We must withdraw all the pretexts from the Israeli side to prevent a disaster in the Gaza Strip,” Erekat said, warning that the current Israeli raids precede “a criminal act that Israel prepares for Gaza.”

Meanwhile, he criticized Hamas leaders for delivering extreme statements that vow to “open doors of hell on Israel,” underlining “We must remember that we are unarmed people and Gaza has never achieved strategic balancing with Israel.”

Erekat also urged Hamas to end its control on Gaza Strip. “They must step back from their coup in order to reunite,” he said.
