Gurgaon : A city court Wednesday dismissed the bail plea of Pooja Singhal, sister-in-law of kidney racket kingpin Amit Kumar and wife of his absconding associate Jeewan Kumar.
“The charges against her are serious in nature,” Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Ranjana Aggarwal said.
Pooja has been charged with criminal conspiracy and is in judicial custody. The Gurgaon police have claimed that she took care of monetary transactions in the illegal kidney racket.
According to the police, she helped Jeewan give the police a slip before the Jan 24 raid by dropping him “somewhere in south Delhi”. The raid helped unearth the multi-billion-rupee scam. Interpol has issued a Red Corner notice against Jeewan, who is now untraceable.
The police detained Pooja for interrogation from the family’s house in Essel Towers on the Mehrauli-Gurgaon road. Her parents were also detained for questioning but were released later.
Jeewan remains at large while Amit Kumar, the alleged mastermind behind the decade-old illegal kidney transplant racket, is in the custody of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Amit Kumar alias Santosh Rameshwar Raut was arrested from a hotel in Nepal and was brought back to India Saturday.
