“We will not tolerate anti-national activities and those trying to divide the country in the name of region and religion will not be spared,” he told the RJD’s Chetna (awareness) rally here.

“We condemn the incidents in Maharashtra,” he said, referring to the clashes between Thackeray’s supporters and people from north India, especially Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, settled in the western state.

Lalu Prasad also took a dig at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), saying its ally in Maharashtra, the Shiv Sena, had also raised similar issues in the past.

The RJD chief praised Jharkhand Chief Minister Madhu Koda and announced that the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government headed by him would complete its term.

“We installed Koda to provide a secular government and ensure development of the region after the BJP’s six-year rule had created chaos in the state.”

Former Bihar chief minister Rabri Devi and other party leaders also addressed the rally aimed at expanding its base in the state and ensuring greater participation of the party in the government.
