Agartala : The ruling Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) in Tripura Thursday held protest demonstrations against hike in prices of petrol and diesel.
“Similar protest demonstration would be organised on Friday,” said Gautam Das, state spokesperson of CPI-M.
“The Left parties gave an alternative proposal to the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) central government to increase the excise and customs duty of petroleum products and avoid increasing the prices of fuel. But they did not listen to us,” he said.
“We strongly protest the government’s decision because the fuel price hike will lead to rise in prices of essential commodities, besides hike in transport fare,” Das said.
The fuel price hike has become a political issue in the state ahead of the Feb 23 assembly elections.
