Mumbai : Republic Party of India (RPI) leader and parliamentarian Ramdas Athawale warned Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray not to go against the constitution drafted by B.R. Ambedkhar.

Speaking at a rally in Shivaji Park here Sunday, the dalit leader appealed to Thackeray to change his stand towards north Indians in the city.

“Mumbai belongs to all and the Hindi speaking populace here must not be harassed by anybody,” said Athawale.

He was in the city to address the rally that marked the culmination of his Samata Sandesh March.

Athawale said if north Indians were taking away jobs from the locals, the latter needed to be more competitive.

According to Athawale, Mumbai can never be severed from Maharashtra. He also used the occasion to make it clear that a large number of Mahrashtrians were living in other states like Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat.
