Gurgaon : Linda, a nurse and an associate of kidney scam kingpin Amit Kumar, will remain in the judicial custody for 14 more days.
A city court here Saturday extended Linda’s judicial custody for 14 days. She has been in detention since her arrest Jan 31. Linda worked at the state-run Ram Manohar Lohia hospital in Delhi.
A resident of Manipur, Linda worked for Amit Kumar alias Santosh Rameshwar Raut for over a year before taking up a job in the government hospital here in 2006.
She continued to work part time for Amit, who operated the global organ transplant racket. It was said Linda was paid Rs.25,000-Rs.30,000 a month while working with Amit.
The CBI, which is probing the racket, searched Linda’s hostel room in the hospital. Its sleuths also questioned the hospital staff and seized some documents that provided them with “valuable clues” in solving the case.
Amit Kumar, the 43-year-old Ayurvedic doctor, is alleged to have conducted about 600 kidney-transplants, some of them under coercion.
Amit was arrested by the Nepalese police after a fortnight long manhunt by the police in India and a red corner notice issued by the Interpol.
