Mayawati to meet PM Monday

Lucknow : Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati is expected to take up her oft-repeated demand for financial help for the state when she meets Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Monday.

Her demand for a special economic package of Rs.80,000 crore (Rs.800 billion) for the development of the poverty-ridden Bundelkhand and Purvanchal regions was on top of her agenda, according to highly placed sources.

In her second meeting with the prime minister since she assumed power in the country’s most populous state in May 2007, Mayawati is hopeful of getting Manmohan Singh’s nod to some of her key demands, they said Sunday.

Mayawati is also likely to remind the prime minister about her long pending proposal for creation of an international aviation hub cum airport at Jevar in Greater Noida, near Delhi.

While the central government had in principle agreed to Mayawati’s suggestion in this regard, a concrete proposal sent by her was pending before the civil aviation ministry.
