Raipur, Feb 18 (IANS) Thirteen Maoists and six security personnel were killed in Chhattisgarh Monday in two separate gunfights between the rebels and the security forces.
According to the police, Maoists ambushed a group of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) troopers as they left their base camp for patrolling by exploding powerful landmines at Korampura, around 500 km from here.
In the hour-long ensuing gunfight six security personnel and three rebels were killed.
After the ambush the rebels fled into the jungles and the security forces cordoned off the entire area. The rebels were cornered near Erasmetta, around 4 km from Korampura.
He troopers killed 10 rebels in the second gunfight. “The security personnel have recovered all 10 bodies from the spot but have not brought it out from the forest as the firing is still going on,” Bastar Inspector General of Police R.K. Vij said.
