Markets opens on positive note in line with Asian peers

Mumbai : The Indian equities market Tuesday opened on a firm note in line with its Asian peers.

The 30-share benchmark sensitive index of Bombay Stock Exchange opened with a gain of 167.21 points at 18,215.26. Twenty minutes into the trade, the sensex was at 18,274.63, a gain of nearly 227 points.

The S&P Nifty of National Stock Exchange opened at 5,278.40, up by 1.50 points.

The market breadth was positive. In the initial trade 1,314 scrips advanced, 282 declined and 30 remained unchanged.

Other Asian markets were also trading higher Tuesday. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng surged 1.61 percent or 382.65 points to 24,141.90. Japan’s Nikkei rose 0.55 percent or 75.45 points to 13,710.85. Taiwan’s Taiwan Weighted gained 1.11 percent or 87.38 points to 7,978.28. South Korea’s Seoul Composite was up 1.18 percent or 20.10 points to 1,716.34. Singapore’s Straits Times shot up 0.56 percent or 17.34 points to 3,100.68.

In the initial trade in the Indian markets, ONGC, ICICI Bank, Tata Motors, Mahindra and Mahindra were the gainers while Reliance Power, Asian Paints, Nestle India and Bank of Baroda were the laggards.
