The first deputy press secretary at the Kremlin, Dmitri Peskov, reiterated that the decision infringes UN resolution 1244 and the agreements of the contact group for a solution to the Kosovo issue.

Russia, he added, will support all possible international mechanisms at the UN instance and the Security Council, with a consequent stance over the subject.

The chief of the parliamentary International Relations Committee, Kontantin Kosachev, affirmed that Kosovo”s independence as such is not the main objective of the US and part of the European Union.

They corroborate a practice in which important international decisions are made behind the back of the UN Security Council, he stressed alluding to the support of Washington and some EU countries to the Serbian province”s unilateral declaration.

Kosachev recalled that neither the stance of China and Russia, two of the five permanent members at the UN Council, nor that of the rest of the international community was taken into consideration.

Russian representative at the UN Vitali Churkin said he hopes his country can convince other States on the inadmissible precedent caused by Kosovo”s unilateral action.
