Civilian killed in third Afghan blast in three days

By KUNA

Kabul : A third bomb blast in Afghanistan’s southern city of Kandahar in three days killed one civilian and injured four more people on Tuesday. A suicide attack on a NATO convoy in the same province on Monday had killed 35 civilians and two NATO soldiers while another had killed 80 civilians gathered to watch dog-fighting in the same city on Sunday. Police chief of Kandahar province Brig. Gen. Sayed Aqa Saqib said it was a car bomb attack. However, he believed, the explosives were planted on a car parked on the roadside and were detonated with a remote-controlled device. It does not seem to be a suicide attack, he added. He said the blast took place when a police convoy was passing through the area. One civilian was killed and four more people injured, added the police chief, who would not say if the injured were civilians or police personnel. Witnesses said the area was soon cordoned by Afghan police and no one was allowed to get near to the site of the blast, the third in three days since Sunday.
