Amnesty concerns over human rights violations in India

Aligarh: Human rights watchdog Amnesty International expressed concerns over the violation of human rights across the globe including India. The organization has kept an eye on the activities of world powerful governments and organizations for five decades.

Delivering his extension lecture on “Amnesty International’s Role in Protecting Human Rights” organized by the Arts Faculty of Aligarh Muslim University on 19th February, Mukul Sharma, director of Amnesty International India, said in India too, his organization paid all its attention on the protection of human rights so that people could not face any bias and exploitation because of their religion or caste.

Presiding over the program, Prof. Abdur Raheem Bijapur said even today, 90% population of prisoners comprise those against whom appropriate accusations are not established and most of them are acquitted after spending years in prison. He said human rights are being violated in every country, and India is no exception, against which all of us would have to jointly wage a war.

Coordinator of the organization, Sana Das, informed the audience that the organization was working for abolition of death sentence.
