Lahore : Thousands of lawyers will march in Islamabad on March 9th if the government did not restore the Chief Justice of Pakistan and around 60 other judges who were sacked after their refusal to show allegiance to President Pervez Musharraf, a senior lawyer leader said Wednesday.
Aitzaz Ahsan, President Supreme Court Bar Association demanded of that the government restore the deposed chief justice Iftikhar Chaudhry and other judges by March 7.
To another question, he said if deposed judges were not restored, then no judge can make decisions independently in future keeping in view the example of March 9, 2007 when the chief justice was made non-functional.
He urged the government to release deposed judges and restore them so that judiciary can function independently in accordance with the constitution.
To a question, Ch. Aitzaz said that President Musharraf and the would-be prime minister cannot co-exist and demanded that the present rulers resign.
He said the people have rejected the pro-Musharraf Muslim League-Q and the President must resign.
“PPP believes in supremacy of law and independence of judiciary, and it is evident that Benazir Bhutto on November 9, 2007 outside the residence of Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry in Islamabad had stated that he is the Chief Justice of Pakistan”.
Aitzaz Ahsan suggested that Makhdoom Amin Fahim is the suitable candidate for premiership as Benazir Bhutto had trusted him.
He said that the success of Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) in election is the outcome of the party’s determination to restore deposed judges and ensure the independence of judiciary in the country.
About Pakistan Muslim League-Q defeat in election, Ch. Aitzaz said that people by rejecting government backed PML-Q have proved that they want real democracy in the country.
He expressed the hope that PPP and PML-N will jointly form government and decision of his party about premiership, whatever it may be, would be acceptable to him.
He apprehended that if PPP and PML-N failed to form government jointly, the political circumstances of the country would be of 1988 which may be un-controllable.
