Gandhi and Patil will reach Udhampur Air Force base and will be received by Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and union Water Resources Minister Saifuddin Soz, who has recently been appointed chief of the Jammu and Kashmir unit of the Congress.

They will visit the avalanche-hit Bhaderwah area, the assembly constituency of the chief minister and will conduct an aerial survey of Karpan, Verinag and Dooru areas of Anantnag district.

The state witnessed the heaviest snowfall in decades during the first week of this month.

Some areas in Kishtwar district, for instance, received up to 15 ft of snow, and regular water and power supply is yet to be restored there.

Gandhi is also expected to meet senior Congress leaders in the state to take stock of party functioning.
