Ranchi : Jharkhand’s main opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Thursday asked the Madhu Koda government to arrest the state’s Chief Secretary, P.P. Sharma, after a senior official accused him of corruption.
Senior BJP leader and former finance minister Raghubar Das referred to Jharkhand Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Inspector-General Amitabh Choudhary’s Feb 14 letter to the CID additional director seeking prosecution of the chief secretary in a corruption case.
“I suggest Koda to initiate action against the chief secretary without giving any second thought. If he fails to do so, then the chief minister himself may have to go to jail in future… he should prevent such a situation,” said the BJP leader.
“During the NDA (BJP-led National Democratic Alliance) regime, Sharma was the chief secretary, but once a matter related to a fraud came to the fore, then chief minister Arjun Munda immediately removed him from the post,” said Das.
“The Congress is responsible for abetting corruption in the state. Everyone was surprised that Sharma was elevated to the top post despite his credentials,” he added.
The BJP said it would raise the issue during the budget session of the assembly beginning Feb 27 if no action was taken against the bureaucrat.
