The MoU signed by Ajai Gupta, Tour Commissioner of PGTI, and Kyi Hla Han, Chairman of Asian Tour, is effective from Jan 2008.

The ongoing SAIL Open presented by Jaypee Greens with a purse of $400,000 is the first tournament to be conducted as a part of this agreement. The Asian Tour and PGTI together will organise more such tournaments in the future.

Speaking on the occasion, Ajai Gupta said, “This is a proud moment for us. This MoU marks a landmark achievement in the progress of professional golf in India. As per the MoU, all professional tournaments in India being organised by the Asian Tour will be conducted in association with PGTI.”

“This would not only give international recognition to the PGTI and its members, but will also provide platform for Indian players to compete with the leading professionals on the Asian Tour on home soil,” he said.

The PGTI got as many as 60 spots for its members, which is the highest for any joint-sanctioned event in India so far.

Kyi Hla Han, Chairman, Asian Tour, said, “Asian Tour has always been committed to raise golfing standards internationally and provide professionals the best playing opportunities. In PGTI, we have found a committed partner who shares our vision for the game of golf. We are confident that this collaboration will go a long way in promoting and popularising golf in India.”
