Baghdad : A U.S. marine was killed in fighting with insurgents in the western province of Anbar, the U.S. military said on Friday.
The Multi-National Force – West Marine, was killed on Thursday during “action against enemy forces” in the province, a military statement said, without providing further details about the incident.
The name of the soldier is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, it added.
The latest death brings the number of U.S. soldiers killed in Iraq to more than 3,965 since the U.S.-led invasion in 2003, according to media count based on Pentagon figures.
