Islamabad : Pakistan major Islamic groups on Friday staged rallies to condemn re-printing of blasphemous cartoons in Denmark and urged the government to expel Danish ambassador.
The demonstrators also demanded recalling Pakistani ambassador from Denmark as protest against insult to the Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).
Jamaat-e-Islami and its students wing Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba staged rallies in major cities across the country.
Demonstrations were organized in Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Peshawar and many other cities and town in condemnation of Danish media for hurting the sentiments of the Muslims across the world.
Speakers at demonstrations called upon the OIC to take serious note of the blasphemous cartoons and also consider economic boycott of Denmark.
They said that Western media under the pretext of press freedom is insulting Islam and defaming Muslims.
The demonstrations were staged at the appeal from Jamaat-e-Islami chief Qazi Hussain Ahmed.
Like other parts of the country, students demonstrated outside Faisal mosque in Islamabad.
They were holding placards and banners, inscribed with slogans against the blasphemous cartoons.
They also chanted slogans against the Danish government for its refusal to take action against the blasphemous cartoonists.
