Jeddah : Jabal Omar Project will put an end to random development around Makkah, said Chairman of Jabal Omar Development Company Abdulrahman Faqih on Sunday.
At a press conference on the sidelines of the ninth Jeddah Economic Forum (JEF) 2008, Faqih lauded support extended by the Saudi government to execute critical projects in the city during the next three years.
The project was brought up 10 years ago and as agreed with main contractors, it will be finalized in less than three years, noted Faqih who added that the venture was part of 42 plans to develop Makkah and will greatly alleviate the residential jam witnessed during pilgrimage and other religious occasions.
The project’s first phase took up 135,000 square meters and the second will take 61,000 square meters, he said.
The project’s main problem was relevant to King Abdulaziz Street intersecting with Jabal (mountain) Omar, but this problem was overcome through penetrating the mountain and letting the street go through, he explained.
He lauded overall contributions by JEF which was established in 2000. This year’s forum kicked off on Saturday.
