Abu Dhabi : The Zayed Foundation for Charity and Humanitarian Works (ZFCHW) will grant Unesco over 4 million dirhams ($1.9 million) for providing educational assistance to people in areas hit by the 2005 earthquake in Pakistan.
An agreement to this effect was signed here Sunday between the charity organisation and the UN body, according to the Emirates News Agency (WAM).
“It is not the first time the Zayed Foundation is dealing with UN organisations. We have collaborated with the UN Development Programme (UNDP) to execute a number of charity projects aimed at achieving sustainable development,” Salim bin Obaid Al-Dhahiri, director-general of ZFCHW, said after signing the agreement.
As examples he cited the water well drilling project in the desert areas of Africa, collaboration with the Unesco for the rehabilitation of camel jockeys and helping them resettle in their communities, collaboration with the UN High Commission for Refugees to repatriate and resettle refugees in Bosnia Herzegovina and current collaboration with the UN Relief and Works Agency to execute a number of charity projects in Palestine.
Al Dhahiri said the Abu Dhabi-based organisation has earmarked a total amount of $14 million for the projects being executed in collaboration with UN bodies.
For Unesco, its assistant director-general for foreign relations Ahmed Al Sayyad signed the agreement.
