Gaza : Deposed Hamas Prime Minister Ismail on Monday received a message from Arab League (AL) Secretary General Amr Mousa in response to an earlier letter that Haneya sent to Moussa, his office said.
The message focused on the Israeli closure of Gaza Strip and the mounting Israeli army attacks in the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip, Haneya’s office disclosed.
In his message, Moussa said that “the catastrophic situation in Gaza Strip became a new pain and worry for me and for the mind of all Arab people.”
Moussa added that the AL is holding contacts with the UN and international organizations to prevent a possible large-scale Israeli invasion of the coastal Strip.
Hamas took over the Gaza Strip by force in June 2007 after ousting Fatah movement and security forces loyal to President Mahmoud Abbas.
In the wake of Hamas’ Gaza takeover, Israel intensified economic sanctions and siege on Gaza, citing security concerns, especially the frequent rockets fire from Gaza to southern Israeli communities.
Facing the Israeli aggressions, the AL chief urged Hamas to make reconciliation with Fatah, which has wide chasm with Hamas since the Islamic movement took control of Gaza by force.
