Shimla : Railway Minister Lalu Prasad in his railway budget Tuesday announced the construction of the new 63-km Bhanupali-Bilaspur-Beri broad gauge line in Himachal Pradesh.
The railway line, connecting the state’s cement corridor in Bilaspur and Solan districts, will cost Rs.10.47 billion. The centre will bear 75 percent of the cost and he state government will chip in the rest of the money.
The state government has already earmarked Rs.370 million in the annual plan for the railway line.
The announcement in this year’s railway budget has been greeted with cheers in the hill state as it has come almost two decades after the state government proposed the construction of the railway line.
Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal, while welcoming the new railway line, expressed disappointment as the railway minister did not announce the construction of the Chandigarh-Baddi broad gauge railway line and the conversion of the narrow Pathankot-Jogindernagar line to broad gauge.
