One hour and 40 minutes into the budget presentation, MPs from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its allies tried to disrupt the proceedings with slogan shouting.

They were protesting against the allocation of new train routes.

The unruffled minister raised his voice to match the din, occasionally gesturing at the opposition benches to mind their business. Many opposition members later walked out of the Lok Sabha.

The minister got full support from the treasury benches and Speaker Somnath Chatterjee.

“This is a bad habit. This is totally unacceptable,” the speaker said, while urging the minister to continue with his presentation. Chatterjee also bluntly told protesting MPs to leave the house if they wished to.
