Ramallah : Al-Aqsa Brigades, the armed wing of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas’ Fatah movement in the West Bank said on Wednesday that it is not committed to the truce with Israel after its members were arrested.
A special Israeli army force stormed the city of Nablus, amid intensive gunfire and nabbed five Palestinian young men, members of the brigades, the group said in a leaflet sent to reporters.
Brig. Majed Faraj, chief of police intelligence in the West Bank slammed the Israeli army for detaining five al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades members. He blamed Israel for trying to disturb the stable security situation that dominates the city.
Several months ago, Israel and the Palestinian Authority reached an agreement that militants in the West Bank drop their arms and refrain from attacks on Israel, after Israel pledge to stop targeting them.
“The activists were completely committed to the term of the truce agreement reached with Israel in the West Bank, but what happened today was a clear breaching of the agreement,” said Faraj.
Mohamed Aleiwi, an eyewitness from Nablus told reporters that he saw a yellow van full of Israeli soldiers suddenly stopping in front of another car full of five members of the brigades.
Aleiwi added that the soldiers were disguising as normal civilians, but suddenly aimed their arms they hided under their jackets at the other car, opened intensive gun fire, and arrested five young men from inside the car.
