Moscow : Russian Foreign Minister Serguei Lavrov reiterated Wednesday in the capital it is the duty of the UN Security Council to play the leading role in the settlement of the Kosovo statute.
In a telephone conversation with European Union High Commissioner for the Common Foreign and Security Policy Javier Solana, the minister insisted the Kosovo issue must be resolved in line with international law.
The Russian party once again stressed a safe, long-term solution must be sought, in compliance with international regulations, according to a ministerial release published after the talk.
The text clarifies the parties discussed the situation created after the unilateral proclamation of independence by Kosovo, to the detriment of the UN role.
ó This is a very dangerous game that not only leads to increasing separatism, but also weakens the foundations of world security, ó warned Lavron quoted by the Voice of Russia radio station.
