Vijay Singh disappointed with his putting

Gurgaon : Vijay Singh, the only man other than Tiger Woods to wear the tag of World No. 1 in the last 10 years, is no stranger to India having won a Skins event at the DLF Golf and Country Club here some years ago.

But all that old feel about this course – which he however said on Wednesday has changed a lot – did not help as he returned with a card of two-under 70, which naturally disappointed him in the first round of the Johnnie Walker Classic Thursday.

Currently ranked No. 11 in the world, the Fijian golfer admitted he was not happy with his putting. “I threw away a few shots as the green was very tough to read. I am really disappointed with my putting,” he said.

Vijay found four birdies and two bogies in the day and did manage to get an under-par score.

“Reading the greens is a problem. A lot has changed on this course since my victory at the Skins. The pin position has changed and there is a lot of roughs now,” he said.

“I think home knowledge will be the key for golfers on this course.”

Vijay termed the course as ‘tricky’ and promised a better show on the second day of the tournament, which is tri-sanctioned by the Asian Tour, European Tour and the Australasian Tour.
